There are two types of permanent prostheses :
A crown artificially reconstructs the crown of the damaged tooth. It can either be simple or combined with a fake-stump fixed into the tooth's root, with a tenon, now made of fiberglass instead of metal.
Advantages : it protects the tooth ; it is unnoticeable.
Drawbacks : the tooth must be trimmed.
A bridge replaces a missing tooth, by anchering on adjacent teeth (one on each side). This is the same principle as the crown.
A bridge replaces one missing tooth, or two teeth. Beyond two teeth, the risk of breaking is too high. But we can also put a larger bridge, tied up to many pillars.
Advantages : it replaces a missing tooth, by using a permanent system (that we do not have to take off and clean everyday).
Drawbacks : mutilating of the pillar teeth, price.
A permanent prosthesis reconstructs a tooth with the most natural result.
Materials : Permanent prosthesis can either be made of : -metal –ceramics and metal - ceramics
